Two Best of Show Awards this year!

Two Best of Show Awards this year!

I’ve always been a big supporter of the local fairs. I grew up showing rabbits and sheep, and even entered some art through the 4-H program. Even today, my kids are involved in 4-H. My daughter has been showing goats and is learning the value of hard work and where our food and income come from.

As an adult, I’ve enjoyed showing my artwork in the open show competitions at our two local fairs.  Last year, “Caught” received Best of Show at the Tulelake Butte-Valley Fair. This year, I entered two pieces. One a graphite, and the other colored pencil. They are considered two different mediums which allowed me the option of entering more than one piece.  I entered my eagle drawing entitled “The Approach” as my graphite piece, and a mule deer buck piece “Autumn Gold” as my colored pencil subject.

At the Klamath County Fair, “The Approach” won Best of Show and “Autumn Gold” a blue ribbon.  At the Tulelake Butte-Valley fair, “Autumn Gold” received Best of Show while “The Approach” received a blue! I call these two pieces the ‘dynamic duo’ now!  (Both originals are for sale and both have prints available - you could own one for yourself or for a special loved one!)

I am very grateful for any accolade my art receives, but I know the field is strong with many other amazing artists.  I don’t enter expecting to win, but I am humbled by the recognition.  I always pray in advance of a show that God would help my heart to stay humble and always celebrate the success of other artists.

In life, this is true as well. I’ve come to find the value of celebrating the beauty of everybody’s unique contributions to this world and our culture. I’m amazed at the variety of things people can do with a creative mind.  Everyone has something special to offer!

My encouragement to you is to take the time to cultivate your skills, share them, and always strive to grow and get better. The rewards are well worth the effort! And your desire to use your God-given talent honor your Father in Heaven!

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to me, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24
